HOW WE'RE DIFFERENT FROM CONVENTIONAL PHYSICAL THERAPY.

We strive to create a positive impact each and every session, while working diligently to create a long lasting solution. You’ll receive focused hands-on care EVERY. SINGLE. VISIT. We’ll listen to your concerns, thoughts, and goals and establish a plan of care together.

Our goal is to focus on effective interventions that you can’t do on your own, not the things you can do. A home exercise program will often be given, but our sessions will not focus on this unless requested. We won’t keep doing interventions that don’t work for you.

We strive to create a positive impact each and every session, while working diligently to create a long lasting solution.

Dry Needling

Dry needling is a highly effective form of physical therapy for the treatment of a multitude of musculoskeletal and neuromuscular conditions.

A sterile, single use, liquidless needle is pierced directly into the affected muscle or along that muscle’s nerve distribution. The same type of needle is used in acupuncture, but acupuncture works with the philosophy of meridians and energy flows.

Dry needling was inspired by traditional Chinese medicine but adopted by countless Western medicine doctors. It works by causing a micro lesion within the pathological tissue thus breaking up shortened tissues, inhibiting a reflex arc from the nervous system to the tissue, normalizing the inflammatory response, and centrally mediating the pain. This mechanical and neuromuscular effect provides an environment that enhances the body’s ability to heal which ultimately reduces pain.

Cupping

Cupping therapy is an ancient Chinese medicine procedure that uses local cupping massage to relieve pain and increase blood circulation.

The suction created is thought to increase blood flow, release tension and knots in muscles, relieve pain, improve lymphatic drainage to reduce swelling and remove built-up toxins, increase circulation, enhance recovery from training and exercise, and promote healing. Cupping therapy works by decompressing or separating the layers of muscle and fascia to break up adhesions while simultaneously increasing local blood flow and oxygenation.

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM)

IASTM involves a scraping tool over the area of tightness/pain in order to break up myofascial adhesions and promote fibroblasts to lay down new and improved, properly structured tissue.

Think of it as ironing out a wrinkled shirt and fixing snags in a sweater… The shirt (your body) flows much better (less pain, better function) when it’s wrinkle/snag free!

Percussion Massage

Massage guns have become wildly popular, but the quality and intensity of each device differs dramatically. Here at Flow Physio we use one of the best massage guns out there, the Theragun.

Not only does the equipment matter, but the knowledge base of the practitioner can make a huge difference. Dr. Wesenberg is an expert at knowing exactly where to use the device, how to position you, and determining proper dosage and intensity in order to achieve the minimal effective dose your body needs to create a positive change. You don’t want more than the body can manage and heal on its own.

Assisted Stretching

Professional assisted stretching allows your body to move in ways that it is not able to when stretching alone. Passive stretching mobilizes scar tissue and fascia, promoting healing and allowing more pain-free range of motion.

Flow Physio uses proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF), the fastest and most effective way known to increase static flexibility. Have confidence knowing an experienced practitioner will be manually stretching you. Just relax and let us do the work while you reap the benefits. We’ll help you reset your nervous system and stretch reflex, giving you more flexibility, function, and comfort.

One word: INCREDIBLE! I was completely amazed how well I felt after my first session. She worked on my hip and IT band areas specifically, along with helping me find other areas I didn’t even know were tight. A combination of stretching and the Theragun were used during my treatment. After she finished, I stood up and walked a little… I have not been that pain free in probably 20 years! I will definitely be going back for more!

Find answers and general information

A list of frequently asked questions to help you understand how it works.

Do I need a referral/ doctor’s order?

NO. In the state of Wisconsin, physical therapists have direct access, meaning you do NOT need a referral to be treated.

Can I use my HSA / FSA?

Yes! You can use your HSA / FSA check or credit card for payment.

Do you accept insurance?

We want to work with you one-on-one without insurance limiting the care you receive. Flow Physio does NOT directly accept insurance.

Flow Physio is a private pay clinic, but we can offer detailed documentation for potential reimbursement that you can submit to your insurance provider if you have out of network benefits.

Why do I need to care about optimizing my myofascial health?

Maintaining adequate muscle mass is such an important concept, especially in the aging adult. Sarcopenia, defined as age-related muscle loss, can begin at around age 35 and occurs at a rate of 1-2% per year for the typical person. Combat this decline by maintaining the health and strength of your muscles. The result? You will be able to optimally function much longer than the average Joe.

Can I book a single session?

Absolutely. If you’re interested in booking a single physiotherapy session for $65, you can book online. Please note: all individual sessions require an initial evaluation, which is billed separately.

What if I’m concerned if these treatments are safe for me?

Let us know if any of the below applies to you, as special precaution will be taken:

  1. Pregnant
  2. Taking blood thinners such as warfarin and heparin
  3. Suffering from muscle strain, sprain, fractures, varicose veins, high blood pressure, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, and conditions that can affect the blood vessels such as peripheral artery disease, thrombosis, etc.

Always consult with your primary physician with concerns.
